Why is Calanus Oil different from other omega-3s?
Calanus finmarchicus is a tiny copepod that forms the basis of the Arctic ocean food chain. Its oil is unique: a large portion of its omega-3s are bound to wax esters, a structural form unprecedented in the animal kingdom that offers exceptional resistance to oxidation and direct cellular assimilation. It also contains stearidonic acid (SDA), an omega-3 absent from fish and krill, which converts directly into EPA at a significantly higher conversion rate than plant-based ALA. Natural astaxanthin (300 µg per capsule) protects the fatty acids from internal oxidation: zero fishy taste, zero rancidity. Calanus is at the bottom of the food chain: accumulation of heavy metals and pollutants is almost nil, much lower than in fish and krill. Certified sustainable fishing.
