Organic Hemlock Essential Oil
Are you looking for a rare boreal coniferous essential oil, derived from the Canadian fir tree known as Eastern hemlock, with a fresh, slightly balsamic, woody-fir scent, for invigorating diffusion reminiscent of Canadian forests and boreal aromatic synergies? The Organic Hemlock EO from Herbes et Traditions (Tsuga canadensis) is distilled from the needles and twigs of the Eastern hemlock, a major conifer of the Canadian boreal forests. Rich in alpha-pinene and bornyl acetate, its profile is close to black spruce with a sweeter and more balsamic note. 5ml. Ecocert organic certified.
Aromatic and cosmetic profile
- Alpha-pinene and bornyl acetate profile: monoterpene + terpene ester, balanced coniferous profile characteristic of Tsuga, close to black spruce but sweeter.
- Fresh and soothing fir-balsamic scent: woody, fresh, slightly balsamic and sweet. Evocative of Canadian forests in winter. Softer and more balanced than Scotch pine.
- Rare and sought-after coniferous EO: hemlock is less well-known than black spruce or Scotch pine, making it a discovery for lovers of rare coniferous EOs.
- 5ml: Ecocert Organic. Herbes et Traditions.

FAQ
What is hemlock?
Eastern hemlock (Tsuga canadensis) is a large conifer of the Canadian boreal forests (Quebec, Ontario, Maritimes) and the Appalachians. Its name comes from an Algonquin word. Different from balsam fir (Abies balsamea), it produces an EO with distinctive woody-balsamic notes.
Is hemlock different from black spruce?
Yes, they are two different species. Black spruce (Picea mariana) is richer in bornyl acetate (30-45%). Hemlock (Tsuga canadensis) has a more balanced pinene-bornyl acetate profile, with a sweeter and more complex scent. Both are complementary for boreal synergies.
Does Herbes et Traditions offer other Canadian EOs?
Yes, the Herbes et Traditions range includes several Canadian and North American EOs: black spruce, hemlock, ravintsara (Madagascar but with a similar profile). For North American conifers, black spruce and hemlock are the brand's two benchmarks.
