Evening primrose and borage: two rare sources of gamma-linolenic acid
Gamma-linolenic acid (GLA) is an omega-6 fatty acid that is naturally scarce in the common diet. Evening primrose (Oenothera biennis) and borage (Borago officinalis) are among the most concentrated plant sources: 8-12% for evening primrose, 18-24% for borage. GLA is a precursor to prostaglandins involved in numerous biological processes. Cold pressing and the absence of added vitamin E preserve the natural purity of the oils.
