History of Ylang Ylang essential oil

Ylang ylang is one of the most prized ingredients in perfumery. It is found in the composition of many famous perfumes, including Chanel N°5.

In Alang-alang, a dialect spoken in the Philippines, the term ylang ylang refers to flowers dancing in the breeze, and in Indonesian, it means "flower of flowers", due to the floral, sensual and exotic scent of its blossoms.

In traditional local medicine, it was used to treat malaria.

Reputed as an aphrodisiac in Indonesia, its petals are traditionally scattered on the beds of newlyweds.

In the Philippines, its flowers are braided with those of sampaguita (Arabian jasmine) to be placed around sacred images or made into necklaces.

Arriving in the Pacific islands in the 18th century, ylang ylang was used by the Vahinés. They macerated its petals in coconut oil to concoct an elixir to preserve the beauty of their skin and hair.

How to use Ylang Ylang essential oil?

Tonic bath: Mixed into your dispersible bath preparation. Pour your mixture into warm bath water. Breathe and relax.

Depression, intellectual fatigue, overwork: in atmospheric diffusion, in synergy with other essential oils.
