A few botanical notes
Thyme is a very resistant aromatic shrub that loves the sun and grows wild on arid and rocky hillsides in Mediterranean regions. Thymus vulgaris is one of 300 different species of thyme. It includes several chemotypes, which is why the name of the main molecule is always added.
Thyme linalool is known for its mildness, pleasant sweet scent, and exceptional skin tolerance.
A bit of history…
The name "thyme" comes from the Latin "thymus", itself a transcription of the Greek "thumon". This referred to a kind of savory, and the word probably belongs to the family of "thuos", meaning both an offering (which is burned and produces smoke) and a perfume, due to the pleasant smell given off by the plant naturally or when burned.
Egyptians and Etruscans used thyme mixed with ointments to embalm the dead.
The Greeks burned it in public places as an offering to their gods and in wealthy homes. It was highly prized as a seasoning to flavor dishes and as a stimulating body fragrance.
