Why is sea buckthorn omega-7 unique for the skin?

Palmitoleic acid (omega-7) is a monounsaturated fatty acid that is rare in the diet -- sea buckthorn is one of the few concentrated plant-based sources. It is naturally present in human sebum and plays a structural role in the cell membranes of cutaneous and mucosal epithelia. Supplementation stimulates cellular renewal in epithelia (skin, vaginal, digestive, and ocular mucous membranes), improves sebum production, and reduces sensations of dryness. Supercritical CO₂ extraction (solvent-free, heat-free) preserves the integrity of the sea buckthorn's heat-sensitive active ingredients: carotenoids (beta-carotene, lycopene), vitamin E (tocopherols), and phytosterols.
