Discover Herberry's organic yarrow tea: dried flowering tops and leaves, in a 25 g resealable kraft bag. Certified organic farming.
Yarrow (Achillea millefolium) is one of the oldest plants in European herbal medicine. Its finely cut leaves and small white corymb flowers have earned it a prime spot in medicinal gardens since antiquity.
Botanical overview
Achillea millefolium is a perennial plant of the Asteraceae family, common in meadows and along roadsides throughout Europe. It is recognizable by its very finely pinnate leaves (hence the name "yarrow") and its umbels of small white flowers with yellow centers. Its Latin name refers to the Greek hero Achilles, to whom ancient tradition attributed the discovery of its uses.
The part used for infusion consists of the flowering tops and leaves, harvested at full bloom. They contain a complex essential oil as well as flavonoids, tannins, and sesquiterpene lactones, which give it its unique aromatic profile.
Aromatic and flavor profile
Yarrow infusion offers a slightly bitter and herbaceous liquor, with subtle floral notes. Its color varies from pale yellow to light gold depending on the infusion time. The bitterness, while present but not unpleasant, makes it a tea with a distinct character that can be enjoyed plain or lightly sweetened with a drizzle of honey.
How to prepare the infusion
- Quantity: 1 to 2 teaspoons of dried plant (approximately 1.5 to 2 g) per cup
- Water: simmering, approximately 90-95°C (do not boil)
- Infusion: 8 to 10 minutes, covered to preserve volatile aromas
- Strain and enjoy warm or at room temperature
- Frequency: 2 to 3 cups per day, preferably between meals
