Organic Heather Herbal Tea, 35 g

Discover Herberry's organic heather herbal tea: dried flowering tops in a 35 g resealable kraft bag. Certified organic farming.

Common heather (Calluna vulgaris) is a perennial shrub native to the heaths and peat bogs of Europe, whose small violet or pink flowers carpet the landscape in late summer and autumn. Used for a long time in traditional herbalism, it is now appreciated in infusion for its mild and slightly floral flavor profile.

Botanical presentation

Calluna vulgaris, the only species in the Calluna genus, is a subshrub of the Ericaceae family that can reach 20 to 60 cm in height. Its woody stems bear tiny, overlapping evergreen leaves and numerous small pink to violet tubular flowers, gathered in dense clusters. The flowering period spans from July to October.

The parts used in herbalism are the flowering tops harvested at full bloom. They contain arbutosides (including arbutin), flavonoids (quercetin, myricetin), catecholic tannins, and phenolic acids.

Aromatic and flavor profile

Heather infusion offers a pale pink to light amber liquor, slightly translucent. Its taste is mild, slightly floral, and subtly herbaceous, with very little bitterness. It is one of the most pleasant herbal teas to drink plain, even for those not accustomed to plant-based infusions.

How to prepare the infusion

  • Quantity: 1 to 2 teaspoons (about 1.5 to 2 g) per cup
  • Water: simmering, about 90-95°C
  • Steeping: 8 to 10 minutes, covered
  • Strain and enjoy lukewarm or hot
  • Frequency: 2 to 3 cups per day

FAQ

Is Herberry's organic heather certified?

Yes, these heather flowering tops are certified organic, free from pesticides and synthetic chemical inputs.

What is the difference between common heather and bell heather?

Common heather (Calluna vulgaris) and bell heather (Erica cinerea) are two closely related species of the Ericaceae family, but they are distinct. Common heather is the most widely used in traditional European herbalism. Both are different from tree heather (Erica arborea).

Can heather be mixed with other plants?

Yes, its mildness makes it an excellent base for blends. It pairs very well with horsetail, orthosiphon, or dandelion to create a daily herbal tea.

How should I store my bag of heather?

Keep away from light, heat, and moisture. The 35 g resealable kraft bag allows for optimal storage for several months after opening.
