Organic Lavender Herbal Tea — Dried flowers from the Provençal tradition

True lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) is one of the iconic plants of the Mediterranean basin and Provence, cultivated for centuries for its inimitable fragrance. Its dried purple flower spikes produce a delicately scented infusion with floral and slightly woody notes, firmly rooted in the long European herbal tradition. Herberry offers you dried lavender flowers, certified organic.

Botanical overview

Lavandula angustifolia (true lavender or common lavender) is a subshrub of the Lamiaceae family, native to the Mediterranean region. It is distinguished from spike lavender (L. latifolia) and lavandin (L. x intermedia, a hybrid) by its smaller flowers and more refined essential oil, which is free of camphor. It grows at altitudes between 400 and 1800 meters in the scrublands and wild lavender fields of Provence, Drôme, and the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence.

The flowers contain an essential oil rich in linalool and linalyl acetate (the primary components that provide its sweet floral character), as well as flavonoids (luteolin, apigenin), phenolic acids (rosmarinic acid), and tannins.

Aromatic and flavor profile

Lavender infusion offers a light, translucent liquor with a slightly bluish to purplish hue. Its fragrance is immediately recognizable: floral, sweet, slightly woody, and camphoraceous. On the palate, the taste is delicate and slightly bitter, with a lingering floral aroma. It is a highly aromatic herbal tea that can be enjoyed plain or lightly sweetened with acacia honey.

How to prepare the infusion

  • Quantity: 1 teaspoon of dried flowers (approx. 1 to 1.5 g) per cup — do not exceed, as it may make the infusion too intense
  • Water: simmering, around 90°C (do not boil, to preserve the aromas)
  • Infusion: 5 to 8 minutes, covered
  • Strain and enjoy warm
  • Frequency: 1 to 2 cups per day

FAQ

Is Herberry organic lavender certified?

Yes, these lavender flowers are certified organic, free from pesticides and synthetic chemical inputs.

What is the difference between true lavender, spike lavender, and lavandin?

True lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) is the finest and most prized variety in herbalism and perfumery. Spike lavender (L. latifolia) contains more camphor. Lavandin (L. x intermedia) is a hybrid widely cultivated for its high yield, but it has a more rustic aromatic profile. True lavender is the variety used for herbal teas.

Can lavender be used in cooking?

Yes, food-grade lavender flowers are used in certain Provençal recipes (Herbes de Provence, sorbets, honey, macarons). Herberry's lavender is certified organic, food-grade lavender perfectly suited for this purpose.

How should I store my bag of lavender?

Keep away from direct light, heat, and humidity. Lavender's aroma is highly volatile; close the bag tightly after each use and consume preferably within 12 months.
