DÉTOX! On élimine TOUT !

DETOX! We eliminate EVERYTHING!

January 6, 2021Cécile Carois

The famous detox, a bit of a "catch-all" term, but what does it really mean?

In naturopathy, as we practice and advise it at the store, it is defined in two major stages:

First stage of the detoxification cure

We start by cutting off the source of the excesses. Return to a healthy, lighter diet, reduce sources of stress and regulate sleep, and resume physical activity in order to achieve good lifestyle balance. This will activate our 5 emunctories (5 organs of elimination) which are: the skin, the liver, the kidneys, the intestines, and the lungs—that is to say, the exit doors, the pathways of elimination.

It is highly recommended during this first phase to take vitamin C, which will greatly help you trap and eliminate waste (free radicals, acids) and also help you better cope with your detox. It is advisable to do this for about a week.

Second stage of the detoxification cure

To help our body in addition to all the good instructions seen in the first stage, you can use natural plant-based food supplements in various forms (herbal teas, capsule complexes, or ampoules), either specific to the organ to be cleansed or a complete complex that will drain all of the emunctories. Here is a brief summary of the plants specific to each emunctorie/organ.

- For the skin: burdock and wild pansy will do the trick

- The lungs will be supported in their elimination by mullein

- Dandelion, black radish, or rosemary are friends of the liver

- Heather or meadowsweet will promote elimination through the kidneys

- And for the intestines/colon, we recommend aloe vera juice or birch, which will drain, eliminate acids, and rehydrate the intestinal mucosa.

Finally, taking probiotics will help restore the intestinal flora, but that's not all; we are made up of different floras (vaginal, nasal, etc.), and this will contribute to a complete rebalancing. A 3-week to 1-month cure, 3 times a year, is sufficient for prevention, but if there is transit dysfunction, for example, a 3-month consecutive cure is necessary to regenerate the entire intestinal flora.

Quick reminder: Vegetable charcoal is recommended for bloating and flatulence only; we do not recommend it for a detox cure.

For more practicality and effectiveness, we recommend concentrated plant complexes, often in capsules or ampoules, such as "Drain'Idéal" or the "Phyto Depurative." They have the advantage of being properly dosed and are more economical than buying everything separately.

Recommended duration: 20-30 days

To recap: Week 1: Vitamin C

                            Week 2: Vitamin C + plant complex + probiotics

                            Week 3: Vitamin C + plant complex + probiotics

                            Week 4: Vitamin C + plant complex + probiotics

This cure can be done 2 to 3 times a year, often during seasonal changes like the transition from autumn to winter and spring to summer, or just after the holiday season to eliminate accumulated excesses.
